Jose Molina replaces Antonio Habas as head coach at Mohun Bagan.

Jose Francisco Molina has been named the new head coach of Mohun Bagan Super Giants, the team announced on Tuesday, June 11.

Antonio Lopez Habas, who assumed leadership of the Mariners midway through the previous season and led them to a victorious campaign in which they won the ISL Shield, is expected to be replaced by Jose Molina.

Molina used to be the ISL coach of Atletico de Kolkata, the team that Mohun Bagan merged with a few seasons ago. During the 2017–18 season, the former Spain international served as manager of the Mexican club Atletico San Luis.

A ‘rich legacy’ awaits the 53-year-old, who is thrilled to be joining the elite football team. He calls himself a ‘honoured’ member of the club.

Being a member of the Mohun Bagan Super Giants, a team with a long history, is an honour. My goal is to increase the club’s and its supporters’ success. Following his appointment, Molina stated, “I would also like to thank Dr. Thank you Goenka for granting me this chance and entrusting me with the leadership of Mohun Bagan Super Giant as head coach.”

For the previous three years, Molina also served as the Spanish Football Federation’s Technical Director. Molina was a player for Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal, and other elite Spanish teams. He also made nine appearances for the senior Spain squad.

It remains to be seen how Molina replaces his compatriot at the Kolkata club as the new season approaches.
