Preview of Drova, an upcoming PC game about the Forsaken Kin.
Drova – Forsaken Kin is a forthcoming action-RPG adventure for solo players created by game developers Just2d. It is an action game similar to Dark Souls, featuring mysticism and dark themes inspired by Celtic mythology. Drova was initially revealed three years ago and is currently in the process of being developed. It is scheduled for release on PC later this year. We were asked to closely examine the game prior to its release. Of course, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to explore the lands of Drova in depth.

An RPG game with loads of heart and personality – Pixel Edition..
Are you a fan of challenges and enjoy the souls-like genre? Do you find it challenging to withstand the constant pressure of all the attacks directed towards you? After receiving a thorough thrashing while playing Dark Souls & Elden Ring, I have concluded that this genre is not suited to my tastes. Feel free to share your top choice of game in this category by leaving a comment below!
Gaming experience
At the beginning of the game, you will encounter a simple character creator. Here you have the option to customize your pixelated character that you will navigate through these challenging lands. I opted for a rugged appearance to appear as tough as I could. I continue to do this with the belief that in a future game, AI opponents will notice my erratic appearance and stay away. You have the choice to equip a buff that can help make the game easier in certain ways. I selected a ring that provided additional HP because it will be beneficial when HP is depleted quickly in games such as this.
The story begins with a cutscene in which you discover that your tribe has uncovered a red, luminous gemstone. The druids of the tribe used the gemstone to find a hidden location and ventured into the forest to explore further. The inquisitive customer accompanies them into the shadowy woods. Here is where I encountered the gameplay screen and the tutorial for navigating the lands. I decided to utilize a mouse and keyboard where the mouse pointer represents your direction and the WASD keys control your movement. The ability to use the right mouse button to concentrate your gaze beyond the bushes struck me as intelligent. Before long, I found myself moving through the dim and misty surroundings, following the path left by the Druids.
Transforming into the Unexpected Hero
You catch up with the Druids and witness the leader of the group being killed. The apprentice asks you to deliver the gem to the Druids at Nemeton, where everything will be unveiled. You find yourself transported to a distant location, beginning your adventure into the unfamiliar without any armor or weapons. You are mainly on your own to wander with only a path to follow and no clear guidance. In the end, you meet other people on the journey who lead you to your final destination. The conversation choices are quite basic, resulting in a more extensive response from the person you are conversing with.
The journey leads you to the woodcutter’s camp in due course. Here you learn how to improve fighting skills by accumulating abilities through successful strikes and evasions. Here you can retrieve different mini-missions to assist the camp’s inhabitants. These included searching for ingredients for recipes, locating missing items, and solving mysteries related to thefts. A wealth of skills discovered.
As you progress in the game, you have the opportunity to enhance your abilities, such as spells, but only by learning from those who are open to teaching you. I discovered this as another smart feature setting it apart from the typical click-to-upgrade skill trees. Since skill improvement is infrequent, evading situations can be as advantageous as launching a direct assault. Eventually, you receive a roughly drawn map by hand indicating the general direction to various locations around the world. As you advance along the main path, you have the opportunity to purchase more intricate maps. I discovered this to be an additional distinctive feature of the game.
On the journey, in the beginning of the game, the foes you encounter vary from rats, large mosquitos, and aggressive dogs that could slowly reduce your HP gauge if not handled correctly. As you continue along the path, the adversaries become larger and more challenging. Frequently I would come across them and with just one try I realized I had gone too deep. It was time to withdraw in order to enhance my skills even more. By the time I finished playing the game, I came across a bigger village with a fighting arena and many missions to complete. I can only imagine that it becomes larger and more intricate as you progress.
Visuals and sound
The game’s pixel-art design is stunning, capturing intricate environments and characters with a dark color palette that sets a foreboding tone. The game’s characters, trees, bushes, and enemies are well-designed animations that bring the world to life. Some animations appear really cool, for example, when you dash, your silhouette has a supernatural vibe to it. The complexity of the areas you investigate also increases. Equal attention to detail was given to both the sound and voiceovers. Every character exhibited a unique attitude and was portrayed effectively. Sound effects in the game enhance the immersion without taking away from the game’s aesthetic.
Length of life
I anticipate that Drova: Forsaken Kin will be a lengthy game upon its release, however, I have doubts about its replay value due to its linear narrative with limited opportunities for variation. I had a wonderful experience with the preview and I am definitely intrigued to see its progress.
It is essential to spend time admiring the view in order to distance oneself from the violence.
Concluding Remarks
This demonstration effectively highlighted the game’s features and I’m eagerly anticipating its full release. The visual style of the game, combined with its mystical and ritualistic magical theme, was very captivating. If the game expands and includes a richer narrative and complex missions, I envision it becoming a fantastic game in general.
Mal Keenan remains the same.
