"Civil War" Is Currently Available for Streaming—How to See A24's Blockbuster at Home

Want to rewatch Civil War or didn’t see it in theaters? The new dystopian war film from A24 debuted online prior to its Max release later this year. See below for instructions on how to watch Civil War on services like Apple TV and Prime Video from home.

The film Civil War, written and directed by Alex Garland, is set in a dystopian future in which a group of journalists implanted in the military race against time to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel forces attack the White House. In the cast of Civil War, Kirsten Dunst is starring with Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman.

The first teaser for Civil War reports that 19 states have declared their independence and that there are riots taking place all around the country. Veteran combat photographer Lee and her crew try to capture it all on camera. Before the film’s debut, Dunst, who plays Lee, told Variety that “the whole movie is open to interpretation.” “There were certain things that I just accepted as unaccountable.” It lets viewers express their personal opinions on what they’re seeing.

The writer and director of Civil War stated to IndieWire that he was “choosive in what was presented based on the reporting that the journalists were covering.” “[The political world-building is] probably less ambiguous than it might appear at first blush if you unpack some of the moments or some of the statements within the moments,” he said in his explanation.

“But I think that’s probably got to do with the grammar of how film often works, which is to be very, very clear about everything at every moment,” Garland went on. And since this is lessening that, it seems as though something is missing, but I’m not sure that’s the case.”

With a $55 million budget, Civil War became A24’s most costly picture to date and had its widest distribution to date. According to Box Office Mojo, the dystopian thriller brought in over $112 million in revenue globally and $67 million domestically. After Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar-winning 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once, the movie also became A24’s second-biggest release.
