Following is a round-by-round breakdown of Benavidez’s victory:

Round 1: Gvozdyk fires early, reading to spice things up. Benavidez strikes back with a jab. Benavidez strikes the body while stalking it and then delivers a few well-placed jabs. 10 Benavidez, 9 Gvozdyk.

Round 2: Benavidez is pursuing Gvozdyk once more and might be slowing him down with body blows. A pleasant conversation between the two. Benavidez takes command. Gvozdyk 18, Benavidez 20.

In Round 3, Gvozdyk threw a jab. But it will take more than just jabs to keep Benavidez at bay. Benavidez punching Gvozdyk in the body as retribution. The crowd begins to yell, “David! David!” 30 Benavidez, 27 Gvozdyk.

Round 4: Gvozdyk gets a head start. He doesn’t throw any hot blows, but he moves. Giant moves away from Benavidez and unleashes a fierce assault. Gvozdyk is 36 and Benavidez is 40.

Round 5: Gvozdyk snaps Benavidez’s head back and pops him early. Benavidez is now paying the Ukrainian, especially with a quick combination. Benavidez is now piling it on. 50 Benavidez, 45 Gvozdyk.

Round 6: Gvozdyk appears to be fully fit. arrives and begins to unleash punches, none of which are stopping Benavidez. Benavidez now makes a strong combo to assert himself once more. Gvozdyk is remarkably resilient. 60 Benavidez, 54 Gvozdyk.

Forecasts for the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin fight

USA TODAY Sports’ Josh Peter: Frank Martin and Tank Davis will be catching up by the middle rounds. It’s too late this time. Martin by a tie vote, in our opinion.

The Sporting News’s Tom Grey: Tank has faced some of the best opponents in his shared ring, including Martin. This will be a very hard fight because the challenger is fast, skillful, and defensively aware. Davis by divided vote, in my opinion.

Scott Christ, Bad Left Hook: Martin lacks Tank’s ability to change the course of the game. It will ultimately make a difference. Projection: Davis via TKO in the tenth round.

Ryan O’Hara, World Fighting Championship: Tank may need to fire a few rounds to clear the cobwebs, but once things start to heat up, it won’t be long. Forecast: Davis via TKO in the eighth round.

Carlos Adames defeated Terrell Gausha in a majority decision match to retain his WBC world middleweight title. There wasn’t much action in the fight, but Adames was more aggressive and powerful throughout the 12-round match. Adames received scores of 119-109, 118-110, and 118-110 from the judges. Round-by-round analysis of Russell vs. Alberto

First round: Russell stalked Puello and landed a lot more punches than the fighter. A wise move? He was the valedictorian of his high school, so that’s probably true. Russell ten, Puello nine.

Round 2: Puello connects and looks for opportunities. Russell, though, doesn’t let up. Russell appears to be in control even though he isn’t landing as frequently as usual. Russell (20) and Puello (18).

In the third round, Russell continues to press the action after Puello landed, eventually forcing Puello into a corner. Russell is about to unleash combos. Russell is not slowing down despite Puello’s seemingly threatening left hand. Russell (30) and Puello (27).

Russell leaves the fourth round with his left eye inflamed. Puello’s left is landing with authority, as we already know. However, Russell displaying his trademark ferocity. Russell is slowed by a combination that Puello hits. Puello 37, Russell 39.

Round 5: Puello exudes greater assurance. Russell persisted in his stalking. A powerful conversation starts. Puello 46, Russell 49.

In the seventh round, Puello makes a forceful left. Puello sidesteps Russell, who smiles. Despite the fact that he probably behind Russell on points, Puello is eager for the task. Russell is suddenly reversing course. Puello 65, Russell 68.

Round 8: Puello is well-served by his size advantage behind that explosive left hand. Russell trying to go closer and fight from within. Puello strikes him once more with that left. Puello 75, Russell 77.

Round 9: Puello loses a point to the referee for holding. Man, oh man. Russell lunging forward, as though that had given him more energy. Here we have another amazing exchange to round out the round. Puello 84, Russell 86.

Round 10: Russell is still hunting, but his accuracy is noticeably off tonight. However, Puello fought well when attacked. Puello 95, Russell 96.

Round 11: Russell is confused by Puello. Russell hasn’t yet proven his claims with his trademark knockout blow or any genuine assault. Russell was fighting desperately. Puello 105; Russell 105.

Russell absorbs a low hit in round twelve. This will take a beating. He fires frantically, and Puello replies forcefully. Puello 112. Russell 115.

Round by round breakdown of Terrell Gausha vs. Carlos Adames

Round 1: Boxers trade blows while evaluating one another. Adames uses an overhand right to unload. Inaccessible. But the initial thrill of anticipation. calm circle. Gausha 9, Adames 10.

 

Round 2: The round starts with more jabs and caution. Adames attempts to block Gausha’s overhand right, but to no avail. Gausha 19, Adames 19.

Round 3: Not much landing, but Gausha continues to be busy with the jab. Adames is beginning to take the offensive, although he isn’t throwing many punches. Gausha 28; Adames 29.

Adames delivers a body shot in round four. It’s quite noteworthy considering how few punches were actually landed. Adames getting started, missing a few but hitting more. Gausha 37, Adames 39.

Round 5: Adames only throws 80 punches when he goes in, but they are stronger punches. Adames was the aggressor, but Gausha successfully countered. Round 6: Adames fires a couple of strong rights and starts the action. Adames 48, Gausha 47. Gausha responds with fire. Still nothing to put on the highlight reel, though. Adames has a lot of rights, none of which are being fulfilled. Gausha 57, Adames 57.

Round 7: At last, there is a major punching match in the middle of the ring. Adames is now launching right overhead and hard jabs after that. Adames is displaying greater strength, but Gausha scores with jabs. Gausha 66, Adames 67.

Gausha is happy to rely on his left jab in the eighth round. And Adames making a powerful distinction for himself. If Gausha doesn’t throw with greater authority, it might take judges trained in the Olympics to pull this off. Gausha 75, Adames 77.

Round 9: Once more, Adames takes the lead. The warriors, though, seem strangely hesitant. Gausha opens fire, but all of a sudden he’s retreating once more. Gausha 84, Adames 87.

Round 10: Gausha is sent back out with a directive to be more combative from his trainer. However, Adames is the one executing that strategy. Adams corners Gausha, gets the better of him, and is unable to take advantage of him. However, Adames started the action. Gausha 93, Adames 97.

Round 11: Gausha successfully lands a jab. Adames countered with forceful blows. Hurt. Adames delivered a low blow. Before the activity picks back up, Gausha needs some time and deep breaths. Adames hits a deep right well above the belt, but Gausha quickly connects. Gausha 103, Adames 106.

Adames tosses that overhand right in round twelve. But very nothing passes through the high guard of Gausha. Before Adames pours it on, Gausha is more active. A great exchange to close out the round. Gausha 113, Adames 115.

The undercard for Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin

Elijah Garcia is defeated by Kyron Davis via split decision.

As the scorecards were read, Garcia wore a cowboy hat. An impressive appearance, but not enough to sway the judges following the ten-round super middleweight fight. Davis scored it 97-93, 92-98, and 97-93, and Garcia lost for the first time in his professional career.

The Phoenix native Garcia, 21, lost to 16-1. Delaware native Davis, 29, increased his record to 19-3-1.

Aro Schwartz is defeated by TKO by Daniel Blancas.

There were eight rounds planned for this super middleweight fight. Blancas changed that plan with a TKO in the opening round. The Milwaukee native Blancas, 22, moved to 10-0. The German 30-year-old Schwartz lost to 23-8-1.

Eduardo Ramirez is defeated by Mark Magsayo with unanimous vote.

Mark Magsayo was victorious in a 10-round super featherweight fight against Eduardo Ramirez of Mexico. Magsayo achieved a knockdown in the third round of action. Additionally, he dropped Ramirez’s mouthpiece with a left hand strike in the fifth round, leaving his opponent bleeding. The judges gave Magsayo scores of 97-92, 97-92, and 99-90. Magsayo, 28, achieved a 25-2 record. 31-year-old Eduardo Ramirez lost against 28-4-3.

Mia Ellis is defeated by Margaret Whitmore via majority vote.

Whitmore began boxing professionally in January at the age of 31. She is currently 3-0. Whitmore outlasted the more seasoned Ellis in the four-round super featherweight bout, winning by unanimous decision. Whitmore received scores of 38-38, 39-37, 39-37 from the judges. Ellis, 24, was defeated 7-3.

Justin Viloria wins via TKO against Angel Contreras

The self-described “body snatcher,” Justin Viloria, floored Contreras three times with, you guessed it, body shots. The final one occurred when the super featherweight fight was stopped by the referee in the fifth round. The Whitter, California-born southpaw Viloria, 19, increased his record to 6-0 with four knockouts. The 30-year-old Mexican, Contreras, lost to 15-9-2.

James Mulder is defeated by Brayan Gonzalez with unanimous vote.

The eighteen-year-old Gonzalez defeated Mulder in a four-round super bantamweight fight, winning each round according to the scorecards. Gonzalez, a southpaw from Phoenix, Arizona who is 5-8, had an outstanding performance. The 29-year-old Antioch, California native Mulder dropped to 0-2.

Beata Dudek is defeated by Reina Tellez via unanimous vote.

Despite being seven inches shorter than Dudek at five feet, Tellez managed to dominate the four rounds in the featherweight fight. The American, Tellez, age 21, improved to 8-0-1. 31-year-old Hungarian Dudek lost 4-2 in the match.
