Austria at Euro 2024 team list, games schedule, live streaming details, preview

Austrian thinks that their high-pressing, offensive style against the Netherlands, Poland, and World Cup runner-up France in Group D could trigger an upset.

With just one loss in their qualifying campaign and a five-game winning run under their belt, Austria feels confident going into Euro 2024. Their coach, Ralf Rangnick, has also given them encouragement by turning down a managerial position at Bayern Munich to remain with the national team he has rebuilt.

The competition will be missed by midfielder Xaver Schlager, who injured his left knee at the beginning of May. Alexander Schlager, the starting goalie, also developed a knee issue a few days later.

David Alaba, the captain of Austria, was left off of Rangnick’s initial Euro 2024 roster because the Real Madrid defender could not fully recuperate from a catastrophic knee injury he suffered in December. However, he will travel with the team to Germany and provide “non-playing captain” support from the sidelines.

Pre-Euro friendly match between Austria and Switzerland on June 8 and Serbia on June 1.

Sasa Kalajdzic, a striker who tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in February, is also absent.

Rangnick stated, “We knew from the start we had a strong group,” following Poland’s March qualification as the final team into Group D. Nothing is different.

In June 2022, a month after he took over, the team drew 1-1 with Austria in the UEFA Nations League. He has since rated France as the worst opponent it could have drawn.

While the injuries were unfortunate, Rangnick had options because he had prepared a wide group of young players, according to former Austrian striker Marc Janko, who spoke to the publication Der Standard.

Rangnick has a “Let’s get on with it – now more than ever” approach and is not the kind to start moping. His decision to not move to Bayern laid a solid basis.Together, the squad has grown,” he remarked.

Austrians are incredibly appreciative to the German coach for bringing in a fast-paced, high-pressing, and entertaining style of play.

With a 2-0 victory over Germany in a friendly in Vienna, the previous year came to a successful close. In a friendly match against Slovakia in March, midfielder Christoph Baumgartner scored the fastest goal in international football history six seconds after the game began. Austria defeated Turkey 6-1 in their most recent match.

It begins its European campaign on June 17 in Duesseldorf against France after playing friendlies against Serbia on June 4 and Switzerland four days later.
