Roberts’s personal affinity for space served as the ideal bridge between her and her character, Rex, before delving into the subtleties and complexity of seeking redemption after becoming lost. Roberts praised the other cast members’ outstanding performances and discussed what drew her to the character and her story.

Emma Roberts: I’m a space nerd, yes. I adore empty spaces. I told our writer-director, Liz Garcia, that right away. I was like, I love space, when I first met her.For what reason did I say that? I adore this film. Witnessing it all come together makes me feel amazing. I perused it on paper. I thought it was fantastic to watch all the characters come to life.

That is, what Gabrielle Union did, what Tom Hopper did with Logan, and what Poppy did with Nadine. It’s about second chances and chasing your ambitions, and I felt really proud to be a part of this quirky, feel-good film. I don’t think there’s enough stuff like that out there right now, and I think we really need it.

With a golden heart, Nadine is the best friend you could have. She’s the puppet master of Rex’s fate, a real ride-or-die kind of girl. Tell us a little bit about Nadine, how you relate to the idea of a small-town girl having great dreams, and what is your wildest act of kindness towards a friend?

Poppy Liu: I consider how Nadine raises the standard for friendship. As I previously stated, let go of a friend who isn’t willing to commit fraud for you; they aren’t a true friend. What is my most outrageous act of kindness towards a friend? I’m not sure. I’ve made a bunch of threats to, like, get in your face. I think I’ll locate them. Where are they? What is their phone number?

I mean, I don’t fear conflict because my moon sign is Scorpio. And I thought, “Let me speak with them.” Their desire is to battle. I’m going to fight. I say this because, while I’ve never fought, I will fight with all of my heart and soul. Oh dear, oh. Hexing their adversaries is the best thing I can do for friends. Yes, I do have a strong yes, and I will cast charms to help them manifest. If you get on my behind, I’ll hex you as well as their foes.

In addition to working closely with Garcia as an actor, Roberts served as the film’s executive producer, influencing every facet of production. She expressed her wish to collaborate with Garcia on upcoming projects and commended her for her creative approach.

Emma Roberts: I enjoy being a part of an ensemble first and foremost. Whether it’s in a play or a movie, that’s what I find most entertaining, and this group definitely was that. It’s all about who you’re with, as I mentioned earlier, and I was extremely fortunate to be able to work with these energy, especially when it comes to comedy.

Poppy is obviously a comic talent. Everyone had something so real to say or so amusing to say, and it meant the world to feel seen and heard by Liz. It was incredibly amazing to be able to watch this project come to life and be involved from the very beginning. I said to Liz that I would do anything for her. I hope I’m given the chance to do it once more. It had a genuine sense of teamwork, something that not every film does.

Poppy, I adore the voices you use when Logan calls to ask for recommendations from Rex. What was the source of some of the voices?

Poppy Liu: I was actually seven months pregnant, so part of them came from my naive seven-month-pregnant mind. A while back, someone inquired, saying, “Oh my God, I had no idea you were actually pregnant.” And I thought that was amusing. Imagine if I were to simply put on my tummy every day and say, “Nadine is pregnant.”

But the truth is that I’m simply a stupid, foolish man at heart. Thus, I believe that my approach was to simply do things that make me chuckle or giggle. Nadine is merely a girl from Florida. She is just being a wonderful friend, which relieved some of the burden. None of these accents have to be that excellent, I thought. She’s just trying to kill time at the Muscle Gym, working nine to five.
