Windies vs. Afghanistan today: The top spot in Group ‘C’ is up for grabs
Grass Isle (St. Lucia): Afghanistan and West Bengal, the hosts, are contesting for first place in Group ‘C’ on Tuesday. Both teams are playing well in the event.
Each team has already earned a spot in the Super Eight. Following a difficult first-round loss to Papua New Guinea, the West Indies struck a groove and dispatched the teams from Uganda and New Zealand with ease. However, Rashid Khan’s side has played well because they are used to the Caribbean climate.
Rovman Powell, the captain of the West Indies, stated prior to the game, “This is crucial for us if we want to play a good and consistent game.”
The Afghans’ domination in this crucial competition is demonstrated by the fact that opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (167 runs) and fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui (12 wickets) are atop the batter and bowler lists, respectively. A valuable game was also played by veteran Ibrahim Zadran (114, including 70 highest). However, this side is full of right-handers, thus left-arm spinners from the West Indies like Gudakesh Moti and Akeel Hussain can pose a threat.
Due to a finger injury, spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman has left Afghanistan. However, the team has spinners like Noor Ahmed and Rashid Khan. These spinners worked well against Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
There have been many of runs scored in both of the games played at this location, the Darren Sammy National Stadium, thanks to its excellent pitch.
The Windies batters who are looking for runs would benefit from this. The batsmen for the home team haven’t been reliable at all.
