Gautam Gambhir is unlikely to smile or laugh repeatedly without a good reason. However, that’s just what Dinesh Karthik accomplished in a recently viral social media film as he reminisced about a reminiscence from their playing days. Karthik refers to Gambhir as the “laziest athlete” he has ever played with in the video and recalls a humorous moment from their time together as India A players. Ajit Agarkar, RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh all burst out laughing.
In an apparent old exchange between a few former India greats, Karthik mentioned Gambhir’s sloth when he said he wouldn’t switch songs because he didn’t want to press the fast forward button.
The episode where Gambhir asked Karthik to pass him the TV remote—of his own room—is even funnier!
“DK, come here, change the channel for me please,” he said as I passed his room while he was lying down on his bed. Karthik reflected while the other panellists erupted in laughter.
Together, Gambhir and Karthik won the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. With a match-winning score of 75 against Pakistan, Gambhir emerged victorious in the Final, giving India their sole T20 World Cup victory to date.
After winning his third IPL title in 2024, this time as the Kolkata Knight Riders’ coach, Gambhir is now considered to be the front-runner to take over as India’s head coach following the 2024 T20 World Cup.
From his end, Gambhir appears amenable. He recently declared that taking on the role of coach for the Indian national cricket team is “no bigger honour”.
