T20 World Cup: Afghanistan defeated by 104 runs, setting a new record Windward

Saint Lucia: In today’s ICC Twenty20 World Cup Group ‘C’ encounter, the hosts, the West Indies, easily defeated Afghanistan by 103 runs.

In addition, the West Indies have won eight straight games in Twenty20 international cricket, extending their winning run.

Among them, Rovman Powell’s squad has accumulated eight points, marking its fourth straight victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup. As the leader of Group C, it has also advanced to the Super Eight round.

Afghanistan is in second place with six points overall after winning three of their last four games. Papua New Guinea, Uganda, and New Zealand are not included in this category.

With Nicholas Pooran hitting brilliantly at number eighty-eight, West Indies amassed a massive 218 at the cost of five wickets while they were batting first.
Pooran came within two runs of a century with his 98 off 53 balls. Eight sixes and six fours in his thrilling innings. Because of his direct toss, Azmatullah was run out and brought back to the pavilion.

Prior to this, Azmatullah Omarzai destroyed Pooran, scoring 36 runs in a single over. Each of the three sixes had a border incorporated in it.

For the loss of just one wicket in the power play, the Windies were able to score 92 runs. This is a team’s highest Power Play total in a Twenty20 World Cup.
Shai Hope (25), Johnson Charles (43), and skipper Rovman Powell (26), all contributed effectively for the Windies.
Afghanistan was bowled out for 114 runs in 16.2 overs while chasing this score. With 38 runs, Ibrahim Zadran led all scorers. For the West Indies, Obed McCoy took three wickets.
With now, the group round matchups are over, and tomorrow, June 19, is when the Super 8 stage contests will start.
