Wirtz is one of the brightest stars Germany has produced in the past decade and possesses a rare talent for controlling and dominating the midfield.
If Germany, as hosts of Euro 2024, want to have any chance of winning the cup on home soil, they will need Wirtz at his best for the team to succeed.
Players to Watch – Spain
At just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal has already set an incredible list of records in his career: Barcelona’s youngest goalscorer, La Liga’s youngest goalscorer in history, and Spain’s youngest goalscorer for the national team.
The Spanish prodigy’s explosiveness on the wing and his ability to put the ball in the net make him one of the best options in attack for the national team at Euro 2024 in Germany.
Euro 2024 is shaping up to be a global showcase for a player considered by many to be one of the best 16-year-old talents of all time.
With three titles, Spain already holds the record for most European Championship wins, tied with Germany. Yamal’s unique potential could lead Spain to an unprecedented fourth title.
Nagelsmann reports no injury concerns and is pleased that defender Jonathan Tah has returned from suspension.
Projected lineup:
Germany: Neuer, Kimmich, Rüdiger, Tah, Raum, Andrich, Kroos, Gündogan, Musiala, Wirtz, Havertz

Managers’ comments
Luis de la Fuente, Spain manager:
“It will be an even match.” It could have been a European final and I think it will be an even match in terms of football. Germany always starts strongly and of course we want to match that. We will take control and go full throttle from the first moment.”
Julian Nagelsmann, Germany coach:
“This is not a final, it’s a quarter-final. We want to be one of the teams that makes it to the semi-finals. Spain are also aspiring to be champions so it will be a tough match.” Both teams have good ball possession and good counter-pressing skills, so they can put pressure on the opponents.”
