Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer joins Brighton for £25m.
Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer joined Brighton. After spending £25.4 million (€30 million), the Seagulls signed the 24-year-old for five years.
Wieffer joined Feyenoord in 2022 and proved essential under now-Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
The new signing excited Brighton’s technical director David Weir. He said he was excited to sign Mats, a guy we’ve long respected.
Wieffer was crucial to Feyenoord’s 2023 Eredivisie triumph. His contributions helped them win the KNVB Beker last season. His performances make him a sought-after talent in European football.
Ronald Koeman did not pick Wieffer for Euro 2024 despite his strong performance. But he debuted for the Netherlands in March last year.
Yankuba Minteh will join Wieffer at Brighton from Feyenoord. Minteh joined Brighton from Newcastle United last week for £33 million. Brighton’s midfield options should improve with this reunion.
Brighton signed Wieffer to offer depth and quality. His Champions League experience should benefit the Seagulls.

Another important signing for Brighton as they construct a competitive group that can compete on numerous fronts. Wieffer’s adjustment and contribution to the team’s goals will interest fans.
