The collection’s lines are a breath of fresh air, directed towards our cherished grandfather James Baldwin, who spoke to them and to us as well: “Air we breathe, air we United Kingdom — We will be releasing a new anthology to commemorate the centennial of renowned African American writer James Baldwin’s birth, which will include
reflections on the legacy of the writer and activist who spoke truth to power during the Civil Rights period in the US and beyond, from eminent and award-winning Black authors and campaigners from the UK, US, Africa, and Australia.
The Adiaha Antigha Centre, 24-30 Dalston Lane, Hackney E8 3AZ, which James Baldwin visited in 1985, will host the launch event on August 7 at 7 p.m. In remembrance of the author’s visit to what was then known as the CLR James Library, the structure is currently graced by a Nubian Jak blue plaque.
This new anthology explores Baldwin’s legacy in the era of Black Lives Matter by means of a global collection of poignant “coming of age” and philosophical essays, poetry, interviews, and vignettes written by over 30 writers. These contributors include:
