Do you know the amount for this year The Tamil film industry must persevere with the re-release.

Many film enthusiasts will long to see the greatest films from the past in theatres once more. It’s a different experience to view your favourite actor’s old films while the audience cheers and applauds. For the people of Tamil Nadu, that hope has been even more fulfilled this year. January through June saw the rerelease of almost twenty vintage films.

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya, a Tamil film starring Gautham Menon and Silambarasan, was rereleased earlier this year on Valentine’s Day. The crowd has responded to Karthik and Jessie in the same manner as they did to the movie fourteen years ago. In addition, Dhanush’s feature 3 and Gautham Menon’s debut picture Minnale were rereleased.

March saw the return of Suriya’s Varanam Ayaram and Dhanush’s Yaarete Nee Mohini, as neither film had any new releases in Tamil. However, because Tamil Nadu’s Manjummal Boys was tearing up theatres, these flicks did not receive enough attention.

But in April, Vijay’s rereleased movie Gilli had a significant impact at the box office. Gilli, which was released to commemorate the 20th anniversary, made almost 15 crores in revenue globally. Of the re-released films, Gilli ended up becoming the highest grossing Indian film. Fans celebrated Velu’s arrival in Kerala as well. The opening sequence of Dalapati along with the song Appadi Pot once again packed the theatres.

Ajith’s popular flicks are also prepared for re-release following Vijay’s movie. On the occasion of Ajith’s birthday, the popular films Billa and Deena were re-released. However, Gilli’s enormous popularity could not be duplicated by these two films. Fans did, however, get to see these films in 4K on a big screen.

The long-awaited rerelease of the Kamal Haasan-Shankar film, which swept away national and state accolades and turned into an industrial hit, is almost here. The first installment will be released in theatres before the second installment of India opens the following month. For those who were unable to see Senapati on the big screen, this will be a great chance.

The phenomenal successful South Indian film Ghajini, directed by A.R. Murugadoss-Suriya, is also being re-released. The 4K remaster will be released in theatres. Following this, Pokiri will also be reissued on Vijay’s birthday. The Tamil business, which generates the largest revenue in South Indian industry, is experiencing a terrible box office year.

Tamil cinema has been severely impacted by the absence of festival releases for films starring Vijay, Rajini, Ajith, Suriya, and Kamal Haasan. The Malayalam movie Manjummal Boyz and subsequent re-releases of the same kind prevented the industry from closing theatres empty. It is anticipated that Brahmanda flicks that come out in the latter part of 2024 would alter this.
