Thangalan  (translated as “Golden Boy”) is  a Tamil-language action-adventure film directed by Ranjith and produced by Studio Green, Neelam Productions and Jio Studios.  Vikram stars  in the  film as Thangalan, a  tribal leader during the British Raj. After helping British  general Lord Clement  search for gold in his village, he  meets Aarti, a powerful  witch. 

The film,  Vikram’s 61st film as the lead actor, was first announced in December 2021  as Kari Chian 61. The official title was announced in October 2022 and filming  will begin in the same month. Production  in 

 Various locations including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai and Karnataka  will be completed  by early July 2023. In the film, G.V. Sangeet Prakash Kumar, A. Cinematography by Kishore Kumar and  Editing by Selva RK.

The  2 minute 9 second trailer  has a lot of interesting details.  Sharing it on X (formerly  Twitter), Vikram said, “Watch the golden boy go through history with hard work, dedication and hard work. 

The trailer  starts with Parvathy Thiruvothu’s character  asking Vikram about his thoughts, hinting at his troubled mental state.  Soon an Englishman named Lord Clement  came to their  village and searched for gold with the help of the villagers. 

 A local  orator warns that  looking for gold is  like embracing death. Malvika Mohanan plays  the role of Aarti, a  magician who is determined to save the  country from  oppression. The trailer ends with Vikram covered in gold dust standing  next to his community.
