Maharaj: Junaid Khan got the role of Karsandas Mulji because he is Aamir’s son? Director reacts to the rumours
Director Siddharth P Malhotra, who has made films like ‘We Are Family’ with Kareena Kapoor Khan and ‘Hichki’ with Rani Mukherjee, has returned with the latest film ‘Maharaj’. Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan has made his acting debut with this film. The film faced a lot of controversies before its release. However, the judiciary system allowed its release after watching the film. The film knocked on Netflix and seemed successful in winning the hearts of the audience. At the same time, now its director Siddharth Malhotra has made many revelations related to the film. Along with this, he has also given his reaction on the casting of newcomer Junaid Khan for the lead role.
2 of 5Siddharth P Malhotra was asked if he chose Junaid Khan for the role of Karsandas Mulji just because he is Aamir Khan’s son. To this the director said, ‘It is not like that at all. I could have approached any big star for this role and he would have said yes. But, I chose Junaid because if you look at Karsandas and Junaid, both look quite similar. Also, if I had taken any star, the character would have looked a bit artificial, so I chose Junaid Khan. He looks very good in the role of an ordinary journalist.’
Siddharth P Malhotra further added, ‘Aamir Khan has no role in this. I chose Junaid because he had auditioned for Aamir Khan’s film Lal Singh Chaddha. He was not selected for that film but when I saw his audition, I was very impressed. I told Aditya that I want to choose Junaid for this character. Then Aditya gave the script to Junaid and he worked very hard and the result is in front of everyone.’
Apart from this, Siddharth said that the ‘Maharaj’ team watched the court proceedings live on YouTube. He further said, ‘My salute to the judiciary that they should watch it and evaluate it for what it is and what our intention was. Because in those debates you can go anywhere. I am really grateful to the judiciary that they allowed the film to come out and said that there is nothing objectionable in it.’
