Knowing that there have been rumours of a romance between him and Jewel, Kevin Costner is prepared to clear the air.
On Tuesday, June 18, in an episode of The Howard Stern Show, Costner, 69, said, “Jewel and I are friends—we’ve never gone out,” expressing concern that the rumours might destroy their close relationship. “I don’t want these rumours to destroy our friendship because that’s what we have, and she’s special.”
The actor, who will be seen in the upcoming movie Horizon: An American Saga, revealed to Howard Stern the nature of his real connection with Jewel, 50, saying that they had “never gone out, ever.” The “Who Will Save Your Soul” singer was described by the actor as “special” and “beautiful enough to go out with.”
Costner also described how he first got to know Jewel in December 2023, when the two of them travelled to Necker Island, a private island owned by Richard Branson in the British Virgin Islands, together with Emma Watson.
“We visited Branson’s Island; I was unaware that she had a charity. and I eventually went to Necker Island because Richard Branson had been pleading with me to do it for years,” Costner remarked. “He’s been asking me to come down there for ten years, and I’m a single father and I’m divorced all of a sudden.”
Jewel appeared to be speaking to a throng while holding a microphone, while Costner was spotted on the island with his arms around her waist in pictures that TMZ released at the time.
Additionally, the two posed for a group photo together while donning identical all-white outfits.
During the radio broadcast, Costner disclosed that he had “some tremendous conversations” with both Jewel and Watson, 34, but that they never really clicked romantically.
Although their relationship isn’t sexual, Costner said to Stern that he has grown to love Jewel. As a result, we have a friendship rather than a romantic relationship or dating,” Costner stated. She is intelligent and attractive enough for all those things; it hasn’t happened for us. She is everything you could imagine.
The actor continued by saying that his kids had been wondering when he would introduce them to Jewel because the rumours had been so widely circulated.
Costner laughed as he recalled one of his daughters asking him, “Well, where is she?” He went on, “No, I have to explain to my kids.”

In April, Jewel finally addressed the rumours, telling Elle that Costner is “a great person” and that the public’s interest in their connection “is intense for sure.”
After an ugly four-month court struggle, Costner and his 2004 bride, Christine Baumgartner, concluded their divorce in September 2023. Together, the couple has three children: Hayes, 15, Cayden, 17, and Grace, 14.
Along with his son Liam, 26, who he shares with his ex-wife Bridget Rooney, Costner is also a father to Annie, 40, Lily, 37, and Joe, 36, whom he shares with his ex-wife Cindy Silva.
